All,

Wonder can you advise? i know might seem like a cheapskate!

We are coming from UK for Thanksgiving and already have a number of shows booked. Gentlemans guide just released there latest discount but it doesnt include any performance over thanksgiving. i have looked at telecharge and the friday night is basically empty besides a few seats, do you think they will release a code or you think its a no go? Im trying to decide on whether i pay full whack, even though we have already done so for Hamilton and Fun Home.

Also Dames at Sea is on thanksgiving night, but again currently only discounts up till 13th Nov, you think they will announce a code to be used?

Im just wondering generally how busy shows are this week? We usually like to get all tickets sorted before we come as we dont want to have to waste any time in TDF queue. First time we have ever been at thanksgiving so any other advice on things as a must that would be great aswell.

Anyone offer any advice? its greatly appreciated.

Thanks all

Paul

Thanksgiving is a HUGE weekend in NY.   It is unlikely to find discounts ahead of time (but not totally unheard of) but won't happen until much closer to the date.    GG will likely be available at a discount at the TKTS booth....but you'll have to stand in line.

If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it? These are DISCUSSION boards, not mutual admiration boards. Discussion only occurs when we are willing to hear what others are thinking, regardless of whether it is alignment to our own thoughts.

That long weekend will be all blackout dates for most if not all discounts. And those typically don't lift once they are blacked out, so yup, you'll be in the TKTS line or on the TodayTix app if seats are still available.

The issue will become whether you want to wait and risk watching the theater fill up between now and then, or pay the same amount now to get third row instead of forking over the same amount for 18th row later.

Often shows that have discounts do not offer them during the holidays or holiday weekends because - more people are off work and more likely to go the theater or more people may be on vacation and visiting NY planning to see a show. Yes last minute discounts may occur if the show didn't sell well but as a rule, you find your best discounts when the days are not associated with holidays or seasonal vacations (winter, summer, spring break, etc.).

As long as you don't try to get there when it opens (and you don't need to) you don't have to spend much time in line at TKTS. I never go when it opens anymore and still get good seats. (The theaters often release seats to TKTS as the day goes on.) I've often gone either right after a matinee on a weekend, or I've strolled over around 6:30 or 7 after work when I'm in town business.  I don't think it's taken me more than 15 minutes in the last few years.

Also if you go to TKTS once at the beginning of your trip, you actually can go at the beginning when it opens and not wait in line. I think it's called the fast track program but basically if you show a TKTS receipt or ticket stub within a week they let you pass the line and go directly to a certain window. They have details about this on their website but I don't think most people know about it. (I've never used it because it doesn't make a difference when there isn't a line but my friends did and they let the, right in past the barricades to the direct line to the ticket window.)
