I just want to say a HUGE thank you to the theatre community. Before I became a huge Broadway fan, I hated myself and was very suicidal. I was coming out, which didn't help either. I went to go see Newsies on tour with my drama class, and it changed my life. I finally found something I related to . I can never really talk to my parents, and it felt like I could talk to Broadway stars and they would care. I haven't thought about killing myself in 5 months, and it's all thanks to you guys. Thank you.
It helped me too. I used to be really be self conscious, depressed, scared of crowds, and the list goes on. Now I go see shows on my own, talk to other people at the stage door, and overall a completely new person; for the better. Thank you Broadway community <3
Theater really does make everything better. It's almost healing, and if you're ever having a bad day, one of the best things you can do is watch a musical.
I knew I loved theatre at a very early age. It was a passion and as I got older an escape from a "stressful" home life at times. After moving out on my own with my first partner I was able to enjoy it and participate in it even more and do to this day.
One of the reasons I've gotten even more into theater lately is it is an escape--2 to 3 hours where no one can hassle me or ask me for anything and I can escape into another world without thinking of my real life. I also think that my experience in theater growing up made me more empathetic--I had to learn to identify with someone else to portray another character. It helped me imagine what it would be like to be someone else and I think it's made me a better person.
I'm glad you've found comfort in the theater world and I hope you find peace and happiness.
Thank you for posting this. Very glad to hear that you're doing better. Theatre can be so magical in so many ways, and this is a perfect example of its power. Welcome to the community :)
