"According to an Actors' Equity casting notice, rehearsals will begin in January 2016 with a first preview currently scheduled for Feb. 29. The production will play a limited engagement through July 17."

I know rumors of a revival with Sophie Okonedo were around a few months ago, so I imagine this must be the same production.

Ivo Van Hove did an excellent job on A View from the Bridge so it'll be interesting how he tackles the Crucible.

I wonder who they'll get to play John Procter? Richard Armitage was excellent in the Old Vic production last year but I imagine they'll get a bigger name.

They're going to need a huge star for John. Shows like this (even though it's one of my favorite plays and I'm sure I'll see it more than a couple of times) are shows everyone's seen before so they're going to need real star power to get people into the theater and sell those seats.

I can't imagine this happening without a major star anchoring it.

Bradley Cooper would be a good John.

I'd love if Ivo van Hove was directing this. I don't think any of his work has ever played Broadway, and his shows are always excellent.

I am a firm believer in serendipity- all the random pieces coming together in one wonderful moment, when suddenly you see what their purpose was all along.

Cooper would be good. Jackman would be better. :)

I like the idea of cooper, but I doubt he'll want to do another show on broadway. He only did the elephant man because he has had a love for the show. I'm not saying the he hates crucible, but I'm saying the elephant was way to shine brightly on broadway and he was successful and he doesn't need to do it again.

Actually… Cooper has expressed immense interest in performing in theater more regularly after his appearance in The Elephant Man. Don't know where you got that information.

I guess my dream revival with Mandy & Patti as John & Elizabeth is never gonna happen. Crucible Revival for Early 2016?

Definitely a huge star coming in for John Proctor. Wouldn't be surprised if a smaller-but-still-pretty-big star is tapped for Elizabeth.

I would most love to see Viggo Mortensen's John opposite Sophie Okenedo's Elizabeth.

Viggo Mortenson is a great casting idea. He's been fairly low-profile in the last few years, hasn't he?

According to the casting notice, most of the principals are already cast. Or maybe they put that simply because they don't want people to waste their time submitting for those roles since Rudin will simply be offering them out to stars.

And yes, most straight plays on Broadway nowadays need a movie star (or two, or three) for it to be a box office success.

But a show like this which is done in every high school and community theater all the time especially needs that star power. I would actually love to see Daniel Day Lewis & Joan Allen do it. Seriously, that'd be a dream come true.

Off the top of my head,   Benedict Cumberlatch, Daniel Craig, Ewan McGregor, James MacAvoy, Edward Norton (does he do theatre?), Kevin Spacey, ....

If they're adding a scene where a witch gets burned at the stake, than I think Lea Michele should return to broadway.

I think it must be  Yael Farber's critically acclaimed Old Vic production

Isn't there an American actress already attached to the project?

As mentioned earlier in the thread they should bring the critically acclaimed and non more so than Ben Brantley Old Vic production over. If the new production doesn't live up to the Old Vic standard it could easily get trashed by the New York Times.

William H. Macy is not right at all for John.  He would be, however, an excellent Reverend Parris.
