cheap hotels during flea market

I am hoping to be able to go to the Broadway Flea Market next year and I had a couple of questions about it. First, what is the best reasonably priced hotel close to the flea market? I was researching this years hotel prices on hotels close by and they all seemed like they hiked their prices during this time. Also some questions about the flea market itself? What is the best time to get there because I know some booths start selling before 10 am? Which booths have the playbills really cheap? What time do they start marking their stuff down before the grand auction starts?

Hotel Carter is nice.

Just kidding.

Seriously don't go there.

There is a Comfort Inn a block away from the Flea Market. It's still expensive but much cheaper than most other other hotels in the area. That's where some of my relatives stay when they come up to visit.

The flea market always coincides with the United Nations General Assembly, it's hard to find a cheap hotel.

Keep in mind that public transportation is very good in NYC so booking a hotel in another part of manhattan isn't going to ruin the trip, hotels in Times Square are very expensive year round. I'd look for something uptown or something off the 7 train in Queens.

The booths change every year and there is also no way of predicting who will what what stuff from year to year. If you get there around 10am that's when everything really starts and you just have to start hunting through tables. The most important thing to accept before going to Flea is that someone else might find the thing you want before you and you won't get it. It happens but don't let it ruin your Flea! There is enough memorabilia for everyone.

Thanks everyone for the input. I have already started researching hotels outside the city, so I may do that, if I end up being able to go next year. Emily, do you have any specific suggestions on hotels in that area that are clean and reactively cheap?

I don't know any specifically but the 7 train goes directly to Times Square so Queens is a good option for getting out of Manhattan for lower prices

The Pod hotels are fairly cheap too. I stayed at the one on east 51st street once. It was a good stay. There is also one down on 39th. Don't know anything about that one.

Marianne, I have been checking into those as well. I have heard they are pretty good. I will just have to wait a little while to be able to check prices for next year.
