Hi everyone! I'm taking my 9 year old niece to see Matilda and there is not much of a price difference between the balcony and the rear orchestra. The front row of the balcony on the right side close to the center aisle (Row A, seats 6 and Matilda Front Balcony or Rear Orchestra? and the rear center orchestra (Row R, seats 108 and 109) are available. Which seats would be best for a 9 year old? I'm just worried she won't be able to see that well from the rear orchestra. Any help would be appreciated!

The show does provide "booster seats" that fit in any seat for kids to sit in that will raise them higher.

This to me is a hard call. Sometimes if you are in the front row of a mezz or balcony, you are forced to lean over to see the stage. I had a seat in the back balcony and I hated it. It was just too far away and it was difficult for me to hear. I have also been in the orchestra. I think I prefer it. The actors use the aisles during the show and its fun to me to see it.
And the sound is better downstairs.

In general, I prefer to be upstairs with less chance of heads in you way. But this is one of the few shows I think is better in the orchestra. I have read others here who disagree and would prob tell you to pick the balcony but I can only give my opinion.

Absolutely 100% balcony. The proscenium is cutoff from the back of the Orchestra and totally ruins the show in my opinion. No question. Do not sit in the rear Orchestra or Mezzanine.

I've seen the show both in the orchestra (left orch near the back thanks to lottery tix) and the front balcony (during previews) and you do have to lean forward a bit on the front row balcony. The view, in my opinion, is better from the balcony since you have an unobstructed view.
Sitting in the rear orchestra you won't be able to see that one part happening from the ceiling (sorry for the spoiler) since the mezz overhangs over row L or M of orchestra.

I saw the show last Saturday night and was in the balcony, I think the view is better than back of orchestra. There were a couple of young girls in our row and they had booster seats and seemed to be fine and enjoying the show.

Avoid the rear mezzanine. The balcony cutoff is pretty severe.

The best seats for Matilda are front Mezz in my opinion, but front balcony is ok too.

If you go too far back in the orchestra, the top of the stage will be cut off, but you won't have to adjust to the height of the balcony. There's also no stairs to climb... which can be a plus with kids!

Balcony gives you a nice overall view, but it is kind of high up, and while my fear of heights is not excessive, I did not like the feeling. The front of the stage is also cut off, which will prevent you from seeing some of the entrances and exits the actors make.

If I were in your shoes, I would get rear orchestra and grab a booster seat! You can always check out the proscenium before the show or at intermission. Enjoy the show!

Having seen the show four times from a variety of places in the theatre; Balcony is your best option I promise.

I sat in the center balcony, first row, and it was great. Make sure it's the first few rows though.

See I knew we would all be so helpful with all different opinions. Lolol. No definitive answer here. Just go with your gut. There are pluses and minuses with each area.

Actually most people agree with the balcony. (two dissenting opinions)

I saw the show in the second row of the balcony and hated my seat. And I'm of average height. You definitely have to lean forward to see the whole stage, but leaning forward is really rude. My friend had a little girl sitting in front of her, and the little girl kept leaning forward and would block large parts of the stage from view. The balcony is so crowded that you kind of have to sit straight back in your seat or you're blocking someone else's view of the show. I'd say rear orchestra is probably way better, but I don't have first hand knowledge of that. But I will never watch a show at the Shubert in the balcony again.

Thanks for your help everyone! Majority seems to agree with the balcony AND they're cheaper :)

I sat both mid balcony and mid orchestra. I actually liked the balcony seats better. An overall view of the show up there.

Just give the world Love.
