"When the producers came to me last January and said, 'We want you to write a musical about the 'Today' show,' I said, 'What? It's going to be a disaster.' They said, 'That's why we want you.' I have a little experience with disasters on Broadway!"
Regis Philbin will guest star in the musical, which features music by Scandalous collaborator David Friedman. The team at "Today" will comprise the cast.
Well I'm glad she realizes how terrible her first effort was. But why not hire, I don't know, REAL writers to do this? (It could be funny if they got real comedy writers with wit.)
Was Scandalous a good show? Not by any stretch of the imagination. However, amongst all the mediocrity, the recording shows that "Stand Up!" "Why Can't I?" and "I Have A Fire" are all genuinely good songs. I hope the score is of that caliber - not the same as, oh, I don't know "Follow Me".
