I was planning to rush the show but just heard that Ms. Miles is out on an "extended leave." Can anyone confirm this--and if so, do you know when she'll be back? I'd like to see the show but preferably when she is performing. Thanks.
I saw the show last week and Ruthie was out, but her understudy, Jaygee Macapugay, was really excellent! That’s the risk we take with live theatre, it’s always a crapshoot who will be on. Don’t let that chance dissuade you from seeing this amazing show!
I know Ruthie was out when I saw the show way back on June 14 (though it was the Saturday 5:00 pm show). Unfortunately, I missed if there was a cast board, and there was no announcement before the show, so I didn't realize that it wasn't Ruthie until about halfway through the show (I saw the show last year during it's inagural run with Ruthie). I didn't know for sure until we got the programs at the end of the show that included the slip notifying of an understudy.
It was still an excellent show, and well worth it even without Ruthie.
Saw Ms. Macapugay, who was quite good. I thought the show was kinetic and interesting, but perhaps its being overly hyped tempered my overall enjoyment. To me, it was a good, not great, show.
I saw her understudy as well, and did not know she wasn't the regular until we received Playbills at the end. Isn't it against equity rules to not announce an understudy in at least 2 ways? ANYWAY, she was phenomenal. Never would've thought she was an understudy.
