I know that she was the first Fritzie/Kost replacement in 1999, but how was she? For the life of me, I cannot picture her playing this role. Having seen the revival the other night, with the wonderful Gayle Rankin as Kost, I am very curious to hear more about Clark's performance. Also, Wouldn't she make a wonderful Fraulein Schneider, nowadays?

Clark was absolutely wonderful as Kost, tough and damaged and sincere but never sentimentalizing her. She sang "Married" (in German) straight to heaven. And yes, she'd make a fabulous Schneider. She can really do just about anything. I would love to have seen her do Sally back in the day.

Did Clark play the accordion and the other instruments that Kost normally does?

Thanks for the info and pic!! I sure hope that she gets to play Schneider at some point. I could see her doing it as a short replacement stint.

Her Kost was Brilliant. She is a hell of an Actress. And with her TITANIC castmate, the also brilliant Marty Moran.

Clark is truly a fantastic actress and her singing is perfection. I wish I'd have seen her as Fraulein Kost, and I don't think it'd be out of the world to imagine Clark returning to the production as Fraulein Schneider this time. She'd be fantastic in that role.

"Some people can thrive and bloom living life in a living room, that's perfect for some people of one hundred and five. But I at least gotta try, when I think of all the sights that I gotta see, all the places I gotta play, all the things that I gotta be at"

I love Victoria Clark. I used to see her every Saturday at the gym when she was between shows during her run in Cinderella. As luck would have it, we eventually ended up sharing an elevator one afternoon, and I could not help but tell her how much I adored her in Piazza. She humored me by asking if I was even old enough to have seen that production, thanked me, and proceeded to ask about my life and what I was up to. Aside from being polite small talk, she seemed genuinely interested.

Random story, but…yeah.

Clark talks about her experience as Kost in the Eddy Shapiro book "There is Nothing Like a Dame". Apparently the assistant to Sam Mendes during the put-in rehearsals said Sam's not going to like what you doing. Clark stuck to her guns and fought for her interpretation. When Sam saw her performance, in front of the whole cast said, "Let's talk about Vicki's performance and why it's so fantastic." He could see it was completely different from what Michelle Pawk did and still work.

She was a wonderful Fraulein Kost. In fact, the cast I was lucky to see for my first time (Michael Hall, Susan Egan, Carole Shelley, Laurence Luckinbill, Martin Moran, and Clark) was sheer perfection.
