Hi! Was planning on trying for rush tickets to Aladdin this Friday (Good Friday). Has anyone had success lately for getting rush tickets? What's the key to getting them?
Last Saturday, I was in line by 7am and I was approx. the 15th in line. All rush tix were gone after the first 6 people - no explanation given on how many were available. Box Office just announced that they were all out. Get there 6am if you really want them.
I went to the first lottery today... there were probably 75-100 people there. Yes, it was held on 42nd Street, but there were additional employees besides those running the lottery to herd everyone under the marquee. They used a megaphone. Only about 15 tickets were available, and the last 5 were single seats. Like the rush seats, it seems the number of tickets available per lottery will vary because the employees didn't have an answer to the "how many tickets are there?" question. It sucks that Disney isn't more willing to make affordable tickets available by at least setting aside a certain amount per day.
Aladdin seems to be selling pretty well so I'm surprised they're offering rush/lottery at all...they don't really need to. Also I don't know if this is the case for Aladdin but when Mary Poppins was in the New Amsterdam they sold the mezzanine boxes for something like $35, and I think the balcony boxes were around $50 because they were less partial. I sat there a few times during Poppins and they were pretty good seats, but they were only available at the box office.
@ BEKA531, Be glad they are offering cheap seats at all. The show has been selling well since I got my tickets for first preview back in November. The lottery seats are probably the left overs that had not sold already. They probably cannot set aside seats for lottery because they are already sold. There were days when they were doing rush that only 5 tickets were available and other days where no rush tickets were given out.
Book of Mormon, Wicked, and other shows that consistently sell out for years make a commitment to having a certain number of tickets available for a lottery every day. Of course they don't have to, but Aladdin could do the same. It's just a nice thing for the producers to do to allow people of limited means to be able to see Broadway theatre.
Agree with perfectlymarv on the box seats. I am barely hobbit height, and other than aisle and front rows, box seats ensure I don't have someone's big head blocking my view. That being said, I called the theater and was told they are not selling the boxes for this show. Hopefully, that will change....maybe has something to do with effects (ie magic carpet)?
During the previews, I sat in the box seats. I believe it was around $82, same price as the front balcony/ rear mezz when I bought them. The view was great though my daughter said she would have preferred a more centered view for this show.
I went to the box office on Tuesday, and they guy was a HUGE jerk! He screamed at me that they only sell 2 of the balcony boxes, UNLIKE MARY POPPINS, and they go for whatever price the front row of the balcony is that day. He said you MUST BUY THEM 3 MONTHS IN ADVANCE if you want those.
I didn't ask about those particular tickets, but the box office person I had was lovely. He was extremely helpful and very patient with me. (In fact every time I've gone there I've had friendly, helpful box office staff.)
