Need some advice on the best way to obtain tickets for the Tony Awards this year. I understand they go on sale on April 30 through the Official Tony Website and a link from the Radio City website. Here are a few questions for people who have had success in the past:
Do I need these links or can I just go to Ticketmaster.com?
Is it worth it if you are in the top balcony?
I don't see a time listed, just a date for the sale. Do they go on sale at midnight?
How quickly do the seats for the general public usually sell out?

I have a friend in the industry who is checking on getting tickets on the main level. Does anyone know the approximate cost for these tickets?

Thanks in advance for any tips or suggestions.

I looked at the tickets for fun, last year. All I can remember is:

1) I think you do need the links to go on it, or it's least highly recommended
2) Not going to answer since I'm unsure
3) I'm guessing the tickets go on sale after the announcing of the nominees
4) I checked for tickets around May (I could be wrong) and I think that there were plenty of seats. For 3 people, it was around $300-400 like a regular Broadway show.

Good luck and have fun :)

I've only gone once -- but to get first mezz center, I had to go to a ticket broker.

There are big screens for those who are located in seats further away from the stage.

The experience is worth it because you do not get the utter sense of community when inside the hall ( everyone cheering for every show!) when watching a telecast. And with Hugh hosting this year, the commercial breaks should be fun, too ( you don't get to see that in the telecast).

Good luck in getting good seats!

Been to the Tonys a few times. In Radio City, there's plenty of seats and they have even done a lottery for tickets a few days before. The Beacon was a nightmare! Generally, tickets are available same day as the nominations. I've sat in 1st & 2nd balconies. Most I've paid at Radio City is $300 per ticket (don't forget all the Ticketmaster fees that quickly add up!). It is worth it, if you've never been, for the sense of community & to see what goes on during the commercials, etc. It's on a lot of bucket lists & I had a good time. But honestly, given the cost of tickets, a dress, etc., unless I have a vested interested in a show, I'd rather watch in my PJs in front of the TV with some snacks!
You could also check into being a seat filler (unfortunately, I don't have an info on that). You get to see the show for free, but you're often moving around so no empty seats are seen on tv! Good luck!

In 1968, balcony at the Shubert was $ 5

I still have the ticket. Bright red with half of it taken up by an embossed Tony Award Symbol.

I also went to what was to have been the last show @ radio City. Have ticket & program.

I totally get that it's expensive and can be a hassle, but I think it will be a night I will never forget!!

I am still waiting to hear from my friend in the industry. If he can't get tickets for a seat on the floor, I will likely purchase a ticket myself when tickets go on sale to the GP.

I'd like to share this experience.

We were waiting in the queue for non-Red Carpet attendees ( other side of RCMH) and got to talking to a young lady. She said she was with her folks ( maybe a group of 3 mature couples, but very well-dressed) whom she said were part of a group producing a small show on Broadway. She introduced us to her parents before the queue moved eventually towards the entrance.

One of the winner announcements was for a straight play revival --

LOL - when the show winner was announced, on to the stage came our friends from the queue - to accept the award ( as producers) for Glengarry Glen Ross!

Last year it was $750 to sit on main floor & $750 to go to the GALA. I have been several times in the past, was $500 for awards, $500 for Gala before the telecast was moved to The Beacon because of Cirque du Soilei rental of Radio City!

Watched last year from 54 Below. It was a ton of fun. Great people, food and drink. Not too expensive compared to actually going. They had Tony ballots to vote and the winner got show tickets and dinner there.
Going to the Tonys is on my bucket list also, but I am waiting for a better year for shows. This season has been a huge disappointment.

Last year we made a day of it... went to Pippin (via rush line), then to RCMH to watch the red carpet then watched the show at 54 Below. It was a great day and was a fraction of the cost of going to the Tonys. Updated On: 4/9/14 at 06:12 AM
