UPDATE: MGM Says JAMES BOND Musical is NOT In the Works

New intelligence has emerged regarding yesterday's reports that JAMES BOND: THE MUSICAL is currently in the works!

Reports surfaced last week that Merry Saltzman, daughter of late 007 producer Harry Saltzman, revealed that she had secured the rights to take the popular SPY franchise to either the Broadway stage or to Las Vegas in late 2017.

However on Wednesday, official BOND rights holders Danjaq and MGM Studios announced on the official 007 Facebook page, that they "have not licensed any rights to Merry Saltzman or her production company" for a James Bond musical. The full statement follows:

Danjaq LLC and Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Studios Inc confirm they have not licensed any rights to Merry Saltzman or her production company to create a James Bond musical. Danjaq and MGM jointly control all live stage rights in the Bond franchise, and therefore no James Bond stage show may be produced without their permission.

The British film series, which centers on Secret Service agent "007", launched in 1962 and continues today with Daniel Craig prepping for his role in SPECTRE, hitting theaters this November.

James Bond is based on the main character from Ian Fleming's popular series of novels. Over the years, the role has also been played by Sean Connery, David Niven, George Lazenby, Roger Moore, Timothy Dalton and Pierce Brosnan.
