The 28th Annual Drama League Benefit Gala, A Musical Celebration of Broadway Honoring Kristin Chenoweth, was held on February 6, 2012 at the famed Pierre Hotel in New York City. The evening included a one-night-only musical tribute performed by dozens of stars from the stage and screen. Designed by celebrity event planner Preston Bailey, the Gala supported the educational initiatives of The Drama League Directors Project. For more photos for the star-studded event, click here.


ROCK OF AGES Company

At the request of the office of New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg, ROCK OF AGES performed their classic anthems “Don’t Stop Believin’” and “Here I Go Again” at The New York Giants Super Bowl Victory Ceremony at New York City Hall on Tuesday, November 7, 2012. Following the performance, members of the New York Giants football team were welcomed on stage to receive Keys to the City, presented by Mayor Bloomberg. The newly reworked and fully re-imagined production of Carrie, the musical, had its first preview on January 31, 2012 at the Lucille Lortel Theatre. The show will open officially on March 1, 2012. Based on Stephen King's bestselling novel, the musical of Carrie hasn't been seen since its legendary 1988 Broadway production. Now, the show's original authors have joined with director Stafford Arima (Altar Boyz) and MCC Theater for a newly reworked and fully re-imagined vision of this gripping tale. VENUS IN FUR, the acclaimed new play by David Ives, directed by Tony Award winner Walter Bobbie starring Tony Award nominee Nina Arianda and Emmy Award nominee Hugh Dancy began performances at its new home at the Lyceum Theatre last night, February 7. Stephen Wadsworth's new production of Terrence McNally's Master Class starring Tyne Daly as the legendary opera soprano Maria Callas is currently playing the Vaudeville Theatre following its critically acclaimed, sell-out run on Broadway. Joining Daly are Gerard Carey (Stagehand), Jeremy Cohen(Emmanuel Weinstock), Naomi O'Connell (Sharon Graham), Dianne Pilkington (Sophie De Palma) and Garrett Sorenson (Anthony Candolino). NOW.HERE.THIS., which last year received a Developmental Lab Production at The Vineyard - will be given a fully staged, world-premiere production with previews beginning March 7 prior to an official press opening of March 28 at the Vineyard Theatre. NOW.HERE.THIS. is the newest work from the creators and cast of the legendary musical [title of show], which had its Off-Broadway debut at The Vineyard in 2006 prior to its Broadway engagement in 2008. Stephen Sondheim's Merrily We Roll Along, the first New York City Center Encores! production of the season , opened on Wednesday, February 8 at New York City Center, and features Colin Donnell, Celia Keenan-Bolger, Lin-Manuel Miranda, Elizabeth Stanley, Betsy Wolfe andAdam Grupper. Merrily We Roll Along, with music and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim and book by George Furth, will be directed by James Lapine with music direction by Rob Berman and musical staging by Dan Knechtges. Television and movie superstar William Shatner will bring SHATNER’S WORLD: WE JUST LIVE IN IT to Broadway’s Music Box Theatre for a limited engagement from February 14 - March 4. Opening night is February 16. SHATNER’S WORLD: WE JUST LIVE IN IT will take audiences on a voyage through Shatner’s life and career, from Shakespearean stage actor to internationally known icon and raconteur, known as much for his unique persona as for his expansive body of work on television and film.
