THE WALKING DEAD and the peerless artistry of Stephen Sondheim together at last!

Tony Award-winning composer and lyricist Lin-Manuel Miranda utilized social media to share some particularly hilarious parody lyrics merging the worlds of TV's monster hit series THE WALKING DEAD and the songs of Stephen Sondheim last night.

Manuel penned a series of lyrics voicing the plight of the characters and their current crises on the zombie-themed drama utilizing ideas, themes and terms originating in the songs and scores of musical theatre master Sondheim.

(EDITOR UPDATE: As the hashtag began to spread, Miranda clarified that he was not the originator, instead Matt Zoller Seitz of RogerEbert.com and New York Magazine likely got this very bizarre party started.)

First, Miranda parodied Sondheim's "Finishing The Hat" from SUNDAY IN THE PARK WITH GEORGE, sharing, "Look I ate a brat. #WalkingDeadSondheim".

Then, Miranda paid homage to Sondheim's most famous song, "Send In The Clowns" from A LITTLE NIGHT MUSIC, commenting, "Isn't it rich? / Are we a pair? / Me safe inside my compound / You clutching hair. / Send in the clowns... #WalkingDeadSondheim".

Shortly thereafter, Miranda followed up, writing, "Don't you love brains? / My fault I fear... #WalkingDeadSondheim".

Miranda also wrote an homage to "Someone In A Tree" from PACIFIC OVERTURES, Sondheim's self-professed favorite song of his own, sharing, "I am in a tree / I am dead. / I am in a tree. / I had hunger then... #‎WalkingDeadSondheim?".

Additionally, fellow Tony Award winner Jason Robert Brown retweeted Manuel's parody, himself wittily adding, "Finishing the hat / After you have finished the head. @Lin_Manuel #walkingdeadsondheim".

So, who would like to see Miranda mash-up THE WALKING DEAD with Sondheim's own murderous musical thriller SWEENEY TODD: THE DEMON BARBER OF FLEET STREET next? Tweet your wish!
