Garen Scribner and Sara Esty to Lead AN AMERICAN IN PARIS on Tour; Robert Fairchild to Depart Broadway Show This Spring

Just in, Broadway's AN AMERICAN IN PARIS has announced new stars for its leading lineup, who will also be traveling with the show's upcoming national tour this fall.

The hit new Broadway musical An American in Paris welcomes Garen Scribner in the role of 'Jerry Mulligan' beginning Tuesday, March 15. Scribner, who has been performing the role at various performances since June, 2015, replaces Robert Fairchild, who will play his final performance on Sunday, March 13. Scribner will star opposite current principal cast members Leanne Cope, Veanne Cox, Jill Paice, Brandon Uranowitz and Max von Essen who will all continue on with the production.

Scribner will star as 'Jerry Mulligan' on Broadway prior to starring in the US National Tour of An American in Paris this fall along with Sara Esty, who is currently playing 'Lise Dassin' at various performances.

Additional casting for the tour will be announced soon.

The production is also pleased to announce that Dimitri Kleioris of the Royal New Zealand Ballet will begin playing the role of 'Jerry Mulligan' at various performances the week of March 15. Dimitri Kleioris is appearing with the permission of Actors' Equity Association pursuant to an exchange program between American Equity and the MEAA.

Garen Scribner is honored to be making his Broadway debut in An American in Paris. As a soloist with the San Francisco Ballet and artist of Nederlands Dans Theater I, he has created and performed leading roles in works by Jiri Kylian, Lightfoot/Leon, Alexander Ekman, Marco Goecke, Christopher Wheeldon, William Forsythe, Wayne McGregor, Jorma Elo, Mark Morris, John Neumeier, Hans Van Manen and George Balanchine. Garen has toured extensively and performed and taught at engagements throughout the U.S., Europe, Asia, and Africa. Commercially, he has appeared with Deborah Cox, Les Twins, Santana, Michelle Branch, and Jennifer Lopez. Garen has received awards from the NFAA and the Isadora Duncan Dance Awards organization for his artistry, and was recently awarded the John Adams HERO Award for Best Broadway Debut 2015. Mr. Scribner earned a high school diploma from the University of the North Carolina School of the Arts and graduated with honors in May 2011 from St. Mary's College, earning a B.A. in Liberal Arts while performing with San Francisco Ballet. He is a co-founder of Dance For a Reason (danceFAR.org), which just produced its 4th annual benefit performance in San Francisco for the Cancer Prevention Institute of CA, raising over $400,000 for the organization since 2012.

Dimitri Kleioris. A graduate of the Australian Ballet School, Dimitri was a lead dancer with The Royal New Zealand Ballet from 2010-14 under the direction of Gary Harris and Ethan Stiefel, with works created for him including Javier DeFrutos' Anatomy of a Passing Cloud and Larry Keigwin's Final Dress. He performed with Opera Australia in their production of Death in Venice as 'Jaschiu' choreographed by Meryl Tankard. TV appearances include the Starz miniseries "Flesh and Bone." He also performed the pas de deux Stay with Stephanie Williams, directed by Joshua Beamish for MOVE: the company at the Joyce Theatre. Dimitri was a participant of The Watermill Centre 2015 International Summer Program directed by Robert Wilson.

Sara Esty made her professional theatrical debut as the Lise standby in the Theatre du Chatelet production of An American in Paris and her Broadway debut when the show moved to New York. A former soloist with the Miami City Ballet, she has performed various works by Balanchine, Robbins, Tharp, Wheeldon, Taylor, Scarlett, Ratmansky, and Peck. Sara received a Princess Grace Award for excellence in dance. She trained at the Maine State School for the Performing Arts, the School of American Ballet, and the Miami City Ballet School.

In a city suddenly filled with new possibilities, one young GI will discover his passion for art, his desire for change and the love of his life. Named Outstanding Musical by both the Outer Critics Circle and the Drama League and the winner of four Tony Awards, An American in Paris is inspired by the Academy Award-winning film and features the music and lyrics of George and Ira Gershwin, the Tony Award-winning choreography of director Christopher Wheeldon and a book by Craig Lucas.

The Masterworks Broadway Original Broadway Cast recording of An American in Paris is nominated for the Best Musical Theater Album Grammy Award.

The creative team is comprised of Tony Award-winners Bob Crowley (sets and costumes), Natasha Katz (lighting), Jon Weston (sound), 59 Productions (projections) with the musical score adapted, arranged and supervised by Rob Fisher, orchestrations by Christopher Austin, dance arrangements by Sam Davis, musical supervision by Todd Ellison, and additional orchestrations by Don Sebesky and Bill Elliott. The Associate Director is Jacquelin Barrett, Associate Director/Choreographer is Dontee Kiehn. Casting is by Telsey + Company/Rachel Hoffman, C.S.A.

The score of An American in Paris includes the songs "I Got Rhythm," "Liza," "'S Wonderful," "But Not For Me," "I'll Build a Stairway to Paradise," and orchestral music including "Concerto in F," "Second Prelude," "Second Rhapsody/Cuban Overture" and "An American In Paris."
